Stefan Sagmeister The Happy Show
Happiness Is
Happiness
is the aromatic smell of a strong black coffee brewing at your favorite hole in
the wall coffee shop. You notice that everyone is in line depending on their
brew to get them through the day. What
gets you through the day? ; The dependency on another being or thing that
without a doubt never fails to bring your mood higher than the sun or
moon. Or maybe it isn’t the dependency
but it’s just the feeling of pure bliss of simply looking forward being with
him.
Bliss the state of mind that is the ultimate euphoria. But how can she
reach this euphoria if she hasn’t met him yet? Have they passed by each other
and maybe have not known that this single individual was their road to this
pure bliss? He could have been the guy at the Laundromat. He wore a wrinkled
white tee that seemed to be one size too small and blue denim jeans with dirty
sneakers. She decided to choose the washer next to his. His wrinkled dirty
looking white tee was understandable, it was laundry day, the dirty sneakers
were forgivable as well, it was rainy that day. Half way loading the wash
she reached into her laundry bag, searching for the detergent. Of course she
forgot it. Was this a blessing in disguise? This was her in to talk to wrinkled
white tee guy. She thought piece of cake. She tapped him on the shoulder, he
looked at her and she couldn’t seem to find the words to ask him for the
detergent. It was those piercing blue eyes that she found herself lost in. He
looked at her with a blank stare “Yes?” and she finally asked, “May I borrow
some of your detergent?” He handed her the detergent, “Hurry quick think of
something else to talk about” she told herself. Nothing came to mind, she
handed the detergent back. “Thanks”.
Happiness is not letting fear get in the
way. He stood at the top of the cliff heavily breathing. “I’m going to do it. I
will do it.” If only he could lift his feet off the ground. He swore they were
super glued to the dirt and rocks beneath his feet. A crowd surrounded him
cheering him on, “JUMP, JUMP, JUMP” All he saw were the many mouths moving but
he couldn’t hear a thing he was too focused. “Maybe this is what death feels
like” he thought to himself listening to his heart beat louder and faster.
Happiness is the sound of a heart beat. The day had been gloomy, one
unfortunate mishap after another...
